Your Neutral Safety Switch needs to either be adjusted, cleaned or replaced. A new one runs about $250, but you can remove it and clean the contacts (maybe expand the springs for better contact if required.) The grease that is used inside can get hard and prevent the contacts from touching. It's located on the front of the transmission on the drivers side and it's relatively easy to remove. Remove the nut that holds the shift lever onto the Switch, pull the wiring harness off, remove the large nut, washer and rubber gasket from the transmission lever and then remove the two bolts that hold the switch on. Remove the Neutral Safety Switch and then take the switch apart. Make sure that both contacts on the wiper are clean and that the springs push the contacts against the copper tracks. Also clean the contacts and traces with fine sandpaper. Put it back together and re-install just the opposite of the way you took it out. You should see all your PRNDL lights on your dash again. You might need to adjust the switch slightly if the lights don't line up with the gear you are in. Always be sure that the little pointer on the front of the switch points straight up with you are in neutral.
Yes, the gear selector indicator on a 2004 Mercury Sable is designed to illuminate when the vehicle's lights are on. This feature helps the driver easily see which gear is selected, especially in low-light conditions. If the indicator is not lighting up, it may indicate a blown bulb, a fuse issue, or a problem with the transmission or electrical system.
you need to buy a new one. it must be the correct legnth with no play or you will have transmission out of sync with gear indicator or worse pop out of park by itself.sorry i just reread question.not sure if you are asking about actual shifter cable or gear indicator on dash or console
On a 2002 Chevrolet S-10, the transmission indicator switch is typically located on the transmission itself, near the gear selector lever. It may be mounted on the side or rear of the transmission case. To access it, you may need to raise the vehicle for better visibility and reach. Always consult the vehicle's service manual for specific details and safety procedures.
Sensor on the differential is keeping it in 2WD mode, you won't have 4WD until this is fixed. Since you say it's stuck in 4WD it won't come out until the sensor is changed.
Not sure what you mean by transmission selector sensor. The transmission range sensor reads what position you have selected with the gear shift lever.
You have probably turned off the overdrive function of the automatic transmission. Look for a small button on the gear selector reachable with your thumb.
If it is equipped with the automatic transmission - the "P" indicator on your gear selector will remain lit for 16 minutes after shutdown. After the 16 minutes has passed, you'll notice the lamp has gone out. That is your indicator that the vehicle has entered "sleep" mode (when the light is out).
