Puttin new shocks in a 4runner is really easy. For the front you must jack up the front of the vehicle via the frame, then go in with your wrenches and relieve the two bolts that hold the shock in. Then install the new shock making sure the bolt pattern of the new shock fits before you proceeed with the installation. Same goes for the rear end, each shock is held in place by two bolts. One on top the other on bottom. I suggest jacking up the vehichle to do this so the rear axle can fully drop. The you can maneuver the axle to remove the shocks if they are sticky or sutborn to get out. Just rember safety first, Apply the parking brake when jacking up the vehicle, make sure you have the jack stands in the proper place, as well as in most cases always check the stablitiy of the vehicle while in the air.

It doesn't have struts. It has coil-over shocks.
The 4Runner doesn't have struts; it has coil-over shocks in front. After removing the old shocks a spring compressor is required to remove the springs and install them on the new shocks. Take it to a front end shop that has the proper compressor and tools; it's very dangerous if you don't have good equipment and experience. The rear shocks are easy to replace by yourself.
