1)remove the two Phillips screws on the bottom of the panel. (look up from the floor to see them)
2)lift the panel out from the bottom first and then the top slides slightly down and out.
3)unplug all connections (3 if i remember correctly).
4)unscrew the 4 screws holding in the switch on the back.
5)unscrew the tiny screw in the hole on the bottom of the turn knob.
note: there is a white plastic piece on the side of the switch which can fall off. Mine did, and it took me awhile to find out where it went. Just note where it goes in case you knock it off.

it is located on the transmission itself
The rubber gasket on the headlight of a Nissan 300ZX serves as a seal to protect the headlight assembly from moisture, dust, and debris. It helps maintain a proper fit between the headlight and the vehicle, preventing water leaks that could damage the electrical components and reduce visibility. Additionally, it aids in thermal insulation, ensuring optimal performance of the headlight.
You will have to remove the engine.
The inhibitor switch on a 1987 Nissan 300ZX is typically located on the transmission. It is mounted on the transmission case and is connected to the shift lever. This switch is responsible for preventing the engine from starting unless the transmission is in the park or neutral position. To access it, you may need to remove the transmission cover or other components for better visibility.
Check the wires that plug into the light sounds like a bad groung or no power goining to the headlight. If that's not the problem check the dimmer switch.
