At a Radioshack type store you can buy DIN removal tools. But for a Double Din stereo you will need to buy two such packages. The instructions come with the package.

According to my brother (who is a mechanic), The stock stereo in the protege requires radio removal tools (2 sets) to remove -- you can get them at just about any parts store. Just carefully remove the molding around the radio, insert the tools all the way and then pull them outward to release the clips. The radio should just slide out.

i currently have the same prob...to my understanging the stock stereo runs along with the dash lighting, so did you remove the stock stereo? also check fuses on the driver kick panel
