the clutch fan is easy to remove and replace. you will see it on the upper most pully(water pump). just four 10mm nuts to take off. however the pully likes to spin so i use a screwdriver to hold it still or you could tighten the belt so it wont spin, just remember to loosen the belt back to where it is supposed to be once you are done.
Remove the fan belt, by loosening the tensioner pulley. Remove the fan clutch with the retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new fan clutch.

how do you remove a fan clutch from a 2004 volkswagon passat 2.8 motor
HI, The first question I need to know is, have you removed the fan yet? And why do you want to remove the clutch? Are you trying to replace the fan/clutch assy? If you have not removed the fan/clutch then here's how to get that out. First drain the cooling system so the coolant is below the upper radiator hose. Take the upper hose off of the radiator. remove all of the fan shroud retaining fasteners. Loosen all of the fan/clutch mounting fasteners. remove the water pump drive belt. Remove the fan/clutch mounting fasteners, then lift the fan/clutch and fan shroud out together. Then remove the clutch however you can. Reverse what you did to replace everything and replace the coolant. This could be a good time to replace all your coolant if it hasn't been done for as while. Good luck and if you need more help, we hope you'll clarify your question. Steve H.
If Possible Get rid of your Clutch Fan and go Electric! But to answer the question, remove serpentine belt and use a strap wrench to stop clutch from spinning when you try to remove fan clutch nut from water pump!
Remove the fan itself then remove the clutch from the fan
To replace the fan clutch on a 1986 Nissan 300ZX, first, ensure the engine is cool and disconnect the battery. Remove the fan shroud and the fan by unscrewing the bolts securing the fan to the clutch. Then, unbolt the fan clutch from the water pump, install the new clutch, and reattach the fan and shroud. Finally, reconnect the battery and check for proper operation.
You will need to remove the radiator shroud to get access then release the belt tensioner and remove the belt(s) that restrict access to the fan clutch. Finally, remove the bolts that hold the fan clutch in place. Reverse the process. Done. I hope this helps you. Mark

To remove the fan clutch on a Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax, first, disconnect the negative battery cable and remove the fan shroud for better access. Use a special fan clutch tool to hold the water pump pulley in place, then turn the fan clutch counterclockwise to unscrew it from the water pump. Once removed, carefully lift the fan assembly out of the engine bay. Remember to replace any gaskets or seals when reinstalling the new fan clutch.
First you have to remove the fan shroud which is bolted to the radiator and front cross bracket with 10mm bolts. There should be 4 10mm bolts that hold the fan and clutch to the water pump. What you generally have to do is find a way to hold the clutch fan in place, I have used a large flat tip screwdriver in the past. Then you have to loosen the 4 bolts and remove the clutch and fan as a single unit. Once out of the vehicle you should be able to remove the fan from the clutch unit and only replace the clutch unit itself. Hope that helps a little Michael
