check out the selinoid on the trunk latch
I had this problem once on my 2000 jetta. When I took it into the shop, they told me that the latch assembly was at fault. Once replaced, I had light in the trunk again. So, my guess is that the light switch part of the latch is faulty and not turning on the light.
It's mounted on the Trunk Lid Latch.....
Bad gasket, latch not fully holding trunk closed.
On a 2000 Chrysler Concorde LXi, the trunk light switch is typically located on the trunk lid itself, often near the latch mechanism. This switch is designed to activate the light when the trunk is opened and turn it off once the trunk is fully opened. If the light remains on or does not turn off, the switch may be stuck or malfunctioning and may need adjustment or replacement.
With a pair of pliers pulling the latch.

To fix the inside trunk latch cable on a 2000 Toyota Echo, first, locate the latch mechanism inside the trunk and inspect the cable for any breaks or disconnections. If the cable is detached, reattach it to the latch mechanism securely. If the cable is damaged, you may need to replace it; remove the old cable by detaching it from the latch and routing a new one in the same path. Finally, test the latch to ensure it operates smoothly before reassembling any trim or panels.
As far as I can see, because I crawled into the trunk to open the trunk so I could repair the mechanism that opens the trunk. No!
If the plastic part is broken, it can not be repaired. New latch is about $ 50.00.
If the spring is still in tack - and by that I mean still hooked at both ends - you need to re-install it in the trunk latch. 1. remove any screws holding the trunk liner on - usually one torx screw in the handle area inside the trunk. 2. pop the liner off - takes some effort so by careful, but forceful. 3. disconnect the trunk latch via two 10mm nuts and disconnect the cables. 4. remove the black plastic cover and electric switch (light grey) 5. re-install the spring and check for function. 6. Installation is the reverse of removal. I don't know on your model where the attachment points are for the spring in the latch. Good Luck
