Your engine is a 2AZ model. I have the same 4 cylinder in my scion tC with the same problem. This is a known problem in this type of engine but seen mostly on Camrys with the 2AZ engine. Probably due to the shear number of vehicles sold. There is a service bulletin for the tC (#S-EG016-07) regarding this engine block being replaced. Also the same bulletin for the your Rav4 and Camry, Solara (T-EG015-07). The TSB was issued this problem. Toyota has not posted a full blown recall yet and has kept it fairly quite. We need to raise this issue. One way to help is is to post your problem on (http:/www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints/index.cfm). I would expect this to affect all vehicles that use the 2AZ engines which includes Camry, Matrix, Vibe, tC, xB, Corolla, Highlander, Rav4, Solara (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toyota_AZ_engine#2AZ-FE). If you do a little investigation and you will find many people with this same issue. Maybe with enough complaints Toyota will do something about this.
