Broken shock, broken spring, can be a cause. Can also be a part of the exhaust system that has broken loose. Can also be the rear springs are weak and allowing the rear end to bottom out on the rubber bumper pad mounted on the vehicle. 1995-2004 Tacoma's had weak rear springs and this is a common complaint. Installing helper springs will help. Can also be a problem with the rear axle.
