I'm about ninety percent sure that's the handbrake. Or it could be the footbrake, but I'm not sure, so don't trust me on this. ....... he is right , don't trust him ....... the light is a low tire pressure warning light , check the tire pressure and adjust them all , check your owners manual for the warning light reset procedure ...... its just a safety feature for people that forget to check air pressure

You may need to replace the speedometer fuse. The speedometer cable can cause your speedometer to stop working. The speed sensor can also cause the speedometer to stop working.
sounds like the cable broke usually on the transmission end
You need to replace the speed sensor. It sends a signal to the speedometer and also sends a signal to the transmission on when it should shift.
To replace the speedometer cable in a 1998 Toyota Corolla, first, disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety. Remove the dashboard panel to access the speedometer, then detach the speedometer cable from the back of the speedometer by twisting it counterclockwise. Next, locate the other end of the cable at the transmission, disconnect it, and install the new cable by reversing the removal process, ensuring it is properly connected at both ends. Finally, reassemble the dashboard and reconnect the battery.
