For a 2006 Kia Sorento, it is recommended to use SAE 5W-20 engine oil. This viscosity provides optimal performance in a variety of temperatures and conditions. Always check the owner’s manual for specific oil requirements and consider using synthetic oil for improved engine protection and efficiency.

My 2006 Sorento has a protector plate under the engine---you can drain the oil without removing the plate if you have a funnel that can be pointed towards a hole in the protector plate, but it is a tight fit. Removing the plate will expose the oil pan and drain plug as in all engines. C. Fox foxc@unt.edu

The 3.8 liter engine available in the Kia Sorento from '07 to '09 was a Hyundai built unit, also called the Lambda. All aluminum, timing chain, DOHC, and impressive 262hp output. Hydraulic tensioners on the timing chain and oil leaks at multiple gaskets are issues.
The oil filter is located at the bottom of the engine. It can be remove with an oil filter wrench. Do not remove the engine top cover unless you need to repair something very major.

The Kia Sorento typically uses synthetic motor oil, with a recommended viscosity of 5W-20 or 5W-30, depending on the engine type and model year. It's essential to check the owner's manual for the specific recommendations for your vehicle, as requirements may vary. Additionally, ensure that the oil meets the API (American Petroleum Institute) standards for optimal performance.
