Well, the 2004 Rio 1.6l engines are "interference" type engines. If your belt breaks as you are cranking the engine over to start it, you're probably going to be ok, but if you're driving down the road at 45mph like I was, you'll likely need a new engine due to the cylinder heads smashing into the open valves at the top of the cylinders. Yay.
Kia's all have a zero clearance motors. here is a very good example. your timing belt breaks your motor is garbage! your intake valves spark plugs and exhaust valves will all be embedded in your piston. Please read your manual and go by what it says, and I state it says change it at 60,000 miles. If you want to save your motor in your kia Rio, Spectra, Sedona, Sportage, Amanti, Rondo, etc CHANGE IT AT 60,000 MILES!!!
Bent valvesBent valves
Will anything happen to the motor if timing belt breaks on a 2001 ford ranger
It does not have a belt, it has a chain.
It does not have a timing belt. It has a chain and gears. If timing chain goes out then the engine will not run.
Before it breaks
They are almost all interference engines and if the belt breaks you will have serious internal engine damage.
With some engines, catastrophic damage can occur to engine if the timing belt breaks.
Because the Accord 1991 has an interference engine, the pistons will hit the valves and either bend them or break them or both if the timing belt breaks.
The valves could be bent.
The failure of the 2004 Kia 2.4 liter timing belt can cause severe damage to the piston heads and the valves. The timing belt failure can ruin the engine.
its a chain not a belt.... True. So unless it breaks, you don't have to change it.
This is an interference engine and as such if the belt breaks you will have serious engine damage. The belt must be replaced every 60,000 miles.
