Regular Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) unless it is a Manual Transmission then you will need, Manual Transmission and Transaxle Gear Lube 75W-90 API GL-4. I Suggest Synthetic it will last longer.
A 1997 Lincoln Continental will use Mercon transmission fluid- AX4N Transmission
The kind of power steering fluid to use in a 1997 Maxima is Dexron IIE or Dexron III. Both of these are automatic transmission fluids, which are used in the power steering system for a Maxima.
Any of them if it is automatic.
