Altima's are known for their intake gaskets going bad. This allows "unmetered" air to enter into the combustion chamber and causes rough idle and occasional stalling. Replacing the intake gasket should completely solve your problem...and while the part is about 10 bucks...expect to be charged for 6 hours of service to perform the replacement. I have the same issue and have found the above information all over the net...currently looking for instrucitons on doing the work myself. If you're not handy, folks are saying that you can save some money by finding a reasonably priced local mechanic rather than going to your dealer. Also, If you find yourself having a/c problems in the future with your Altima, there is a part called the Thermal Control Amplifier that is known to be bad in our cars. (Nissan actually has a service bulletin on it and the dealers are being instructed to replace the original part with a different part number. Unfortunately, it seems as though Nissan dealerships are playing dumb as to this issue and asking their customers to replace many expensive a/c parts before replacing this 38 dollar sensor behind the glovebox. I went for the part first and it completely fixed my issue of the a/c compressor not engaging consistantly (unless on defrost). -Ryan (2000 Nissan Altima)

Check the transmission fluid on the 1995 Nissan Altima. Bad fluid can cause the transmission to shift harder on parts that are more worn.
A 1998 Nissan Altima uses 134a refrigerant. When charging the A/C system the correct pressure should always be used. An undercharged system will not cool properly and an overcharged system can cause the lines to fail.
