Most likely the master clutch cylinder, its located in the engine bay on the fire wall, the seals tend to become worn and you loose pressure, a new one should cost around £35 and can be fit DIY taking only an hour or so, it's drained and bled the same way as your brakes are. A garage should only charge parts and 1 hours labour.

How do you adjust the clutch on a 2001 Subaru Forester?

To adjust the clutch on a 2001 Subaru Forester, start by checking the clutch pedal free play. Locate the clutch cable adjuster near the firewall and turn it to achieve a free play of about 0.5 to 1 inch at the pedal. Ensure the clutch engages smoothly without slipping or dragging. After adjustments, test the clutch operation by engaging and disengaging the gears.

What could be the problem with a 1994 subaru impreza that will barely shift gears seriously all your strength and you have to have the clutch pedal all the way down on the floor so it won't stall out?

A few things occure to me. Something's wrong with your clutch's hydraulic system. Out/low on fluid and needs to be bled. Possible bad slave cylinder or clutch master cylinder. Possible it just needs to be adjusted but most hydraulic clutches don't adjust so you'll have to check that out. Your clutch has gone out and needs to be replacesd.
