Could be many things - but if everything was normal until it just didn't start. Engine cranks but doesn't fire? I suspect it could be the fuel pump. It is what happened to me. In my 1992 waggon you have to remove the back seat as it is a submersible pump fitted directly into the tank. A pretty easy job but be careful as you are mucking around with an explosive end of the car :)
