Best Answer

Yes. All the stars and planets in the sky are much more than a million miles away. The moon is the only celestial body that is less than a million miles away. The sun ranges from 92 million to 94 million miles away. The next nearest star, Proxima Centauri, is 4.2 light years ornearly 25 quadrillion miles away.

The most distant object visible to the naked eye is the andremeda Galaxy, ata a distance of 2.5 million light years, or nearly 15 sextillion miles.

How far is a star?

Every star is a different distance from us. The nearest one is about 93 million miles. (That's the one called the "Sun".) The next nearest one is 4.3 light years from us. That's about 25,278,030,000,000 miles. (You can see why it's easier to use light-years than miles.) From there, there are billions and billions of stars, grouped in billions and billions of galaxies. The farthest ones we can see are about 14 billion light years away, but we're sure there are more that are farther away than that.

Why can you see stars from the equator to the poles when you can't see airplane tracks that far away?

That's easy; a very high aircraft is less than 10 miles up, and can be seen for perhaps 50 miles. The Moon is 250 THOUSAND miles up (more or less; it varies) and the Sun is 93 MILLION miles away. The Moon, Sun, and other planets are enormous, when compared to an airplane. The stars; the nearest star is TRILLIONS of miles away, and most are much farther away than that.
