There is no way to get a spacecraft from Earth orbit to Mars, or to establish an orbit around mars, without some form of propulsion being used.
However, the Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky proposed, back in 1924, that the pressure of sunlight on an object in space could be used to propel a spacecraft. (See link.) In 1960, science fiction great Arthur C. Clarke wrote a story in Boy's Life magazine about a race from Earth orbit to the Moon using solar sailboats.
So it might be possible to fly a spacecraft from Earth to Mars using a solar sailer, but it would probably not be possible to get into orbit without using rocket engines once you get there.
a rocket can move in space when the engines are off because there is no air or gradational resistance
The first "rocket" successfully launched into space was actually a V-2 missile. The first rocket-ship that was successfully launched into space used rocket engines. A rocket engine pushes the rocket forward by expelling its exhaust in the opposite direction at a high speed.
Answer The Space Shuttle is a rocket. By definition, a Rocket is a vehicle that burns gas that it carries with it. Where as, a jet airplane burns the oxygen from the air and is not a rocket. The Rocket when it is launched has a liquid fuel rocket engines at the back end of it. It also has two long, solid fuel rocket engines that separate after launch. But the space shuttle is pulled by a rocket.
the rocket was actually launched in either China or Russia
it was launched in 1958
The united states was the first county to launch a rocket The time was there were the use of rockets were only restricted to military purpose but later on realizing its commercialized importance the big corporate companies started using rocket engines for the aircrafts.

The two main types of rocket engines are Solid fuel rocket engines and Liquid fuel rocket engines.

The first rocket launched as an attack was the V1 rocket, nicknamed "doodlebug

Rocket engines are not air breathing engines and hence they can be propelled into space.
It was launched in the year 1944.

The smallest rocket launched to date is the Pegasus. The original Pegasus was first launched in 1990 from an aircraft jet.
it was launched at NASA space center
