Luna, or Selene (Se-lee-nee), preceded the Olympic Pantheon of Gods. She was later referred to or replaced by Artemis, in the Greek Olympic Pantheon, and Diana in the Roman Pantheon. Selene was the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia and the lover of Endymion, a prince shepherd in Asia Minor. She is said to be a woman of pale beauty depicted riding a chariot pulled by oxen, horses, or dragons. She is usually found wearing flowing robes with a crescent moon balanced on her forehead. Selene and Endymion had fifty daughters, one being Naxos.
