Summary: Baseless online rumor claims "the sun will rise continuously for 36
hours" on October 17, 2008, turning three regular days into "two big days" --
an event which supposedly only happens once every 2,400 years.

Comments: Poppycock. Let's begin by applying some grade-school science to
dispel the ridiculous notion that the sun even could"rise continuously for 36 hours."
The reason we perceive the sun as "rising" or "setting" every 24 hours is
because the earth rotates on its axis while revolving around the sun. It does
not -- and cannot -- stop rotating, nor does its speed appreciably fluctuate
(various factors such as climate and seismic events can cause miniscule changes
in the earth's rotation speed, but according to scientists all of these combined
add up to a differential of no more than one second per year).
In order for a day to last 36 hours, the earth's rotation would either have to
cease altogether or slow down dramatically -- neither of which ever happens, let
alone once every 2,400 years. It's physically impossible.

But wait! Don't go away disappointed. We do guarantee that this will definitely happen
in places that are located at just exactly the right latitude between the Antarctic Circle
and the South Pole ... the same places where it happens every year.
We also predict ... ahhh the mists are parting and we're beginning to see it clearly now ...
we also predict that from September 21 2011 until March 21 2012, the sun will not rise at all
at the north pole, and it will not set at all at the south pole.
At the North and South Poles, the sun does not rise in the east during specific times of the year. Near the summer solstice, the sun can remain continuously above the horizon for several days, resulting in the lack of a traditional sunrise in the east.
The sun does not rise two hours earlier in the east than in the west. The time of sunrise is the same for every location on a given day. The difference in time between the east and the west is due to the rotation of the Earth, which causes the sun to rise in the east and set in the west.
* AlaskaAnywhere north of the Arctic Circle can experience sunlight continuously for at least 24 hours (the farther north, the longer the day until you get to the true North Pole, at which point daylight can last up to 6 months -- half the year). The same is true for any place south of the Antarctic Circle.africaI dunno! But it is in either Caribbean Himalayas or Scandinavia.Alaska
The sun appears to rise latest and set earliest during the winter months, typically around December. This is due to the tilt of the Earth's axis, causing the sun's angle to be lower in the sky and resulting in shorter daylight hours.
All planets that rotate in our solar system will see apparent sun rise and sun set There are no planets that are stationary not to view the apparent sun rise and sun set.
In the Morning the sun will rise continuously.
In Alaska there are two sun rises, because of how it sits on the Earth.
Its hoaxes , sun will not rise continuously on october 17 2008.
April fool.aha........aha.....
Yes ... in places located at just exactly the right latitude between the Antarctic Circle and the South Pole. It happens every year in those places.

Very simple. It's a hoax.

yes
The waxing crescent will rise and set 6 hours or less after the sun does.
100 hours
The Earth rotates about its axis, causing the sun to rise and set. A full rotation happens every 23.934 hours. (Which is close to 24 hours, which is why a full day-night cycle is about 24 hours long.)
