When was first dog put into space?

November 3th 1957, launched on Sputnik 2(not to be confused withKorabl-Sputnik 2.) Laika was the first animal in orbit also the first to die in orbit.

What happend to the first dog in space?

The first dog in space died in space when the capsule overheated. This was different from the original plan. The dog was supposed to last longer than that, but there was never any plan to bring it back.

What was the first animal to get lost in space?

The first animals sent into space were fruit flies aboard a US-launchedV-2 rocket on February 20, 1947.Albert II, a Rhesus Monkey, became the first monkey in space onJune 14, 1949, in a U.S.-launched V-2.On August 31, 1950, the U.S. launched a mouse into space aboarda V2, but the rocket disintegrated because the parachute systemfailed and the mouse was killed. On July 22, 1951, the Soviet Union launched the R-1 IIIA-1 flight, carrying the dogs Tsygan and Dezik into space, but not into orbit. These two dogs were the first living higher organisms successfullyrecovered from a spaceflight. On November 3, 1957, the second-ever orbiting spacecraft carriedthe first animal into orbit, the dog Laika, launched aboard the SovietSputnik 2 spacecraft. Since no means of recovery from orbit existedyet, there was never any intention for Laika to survive, and the grislyflight-plan was carried out perfectly, except that she died in agonysooner than expected when the spacecraft's cooling system failed. The whole inspiring technological triumph was televised. On December 13, 1958, a Jupiter IRBM, AM-13, was launched fromCape Canaveral, Florida, with a United States Navy-trained SouthAmerican squirrel monkey named Gordo on board. The nose conerecovery parachute failed to operate and Gordo was lost.Monkeys Able and Baker became the first monkeys to survivespaceflight after their May 28, 1959 flight.Originally, NASA wanted to send pigs into space because their organsare most like humans, but when a pig died during training, it wasdecided to use monkeys. NASA found out the hard way that youcan't lay a pig on its back.

How did the first dog get into space?

Liaka, the first dog into space, was sent there by the Russian rocket "Sputnik II", and was also the first living thing into space, other than bacteria. Liaka died while in space due to overheating. This fact was released by the Russians only in the mid-2000's. (That's not to say that there ever was any plan to bring the dog back to Earth. She was intentionally and barbarically sacrificed for publicity, and the only thing that went wrong with the mission plan was that she died sooner than expected.) (And also BTW . . . It was 'Laika', not 'Liaka'.)
