Apollo 11 did not land near Grand Turk; instead, it landed on the Moon in July 1969. However, Apollo 10, which was launched in May 1969, completed a mission that included a lunar flyby and returned to Earth, splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean, not far from the Grand Turk area. The Apollo missions primarily focused on lunar exploration, while their splashdowns occurred in designated areas in the ocean.
John Glenn landed in Grand Turk Island on February 20, 1962, after completing his historic orbital flight aboard the Friendship 7 spacecraft. The landing was part of NASA's Mercury-Atlas 6 mission, which marked Glenn as the first American to orbit the Earth. The choice of Grand Turk Island was strategic, as it was within the pre-determined splashdown zone in the Atlantic Ocean, allowing for a safe recovery by the U.S. Navy. His successful mission significantly boosted public interest in the U.S. space program during the Cold War.

Its an Island and people are thought to have lived there for thousands of years
I visited Grand Turk 2 months and it is really nothing at all. Just a couple of restaurants for tourists, a tiny locals bar, and a few extremely crappy souvenir shops. I've never been to such a ghost town.
