It looks like a bright star when its in the right place. It has to be quite close to us, it comes by every two years or so. It has a red hue to it when looking at it with the naked eye. With a good telescope, you can make out some surface detail.

This cannot be determined, as both the Earth and Mars rotate on an axis. Therefore, the direction of Mars from Earth varies.

Mars, like all planets, moves around the night sky, so there is no fixed point to look at.

What is the direction of mars from earth?

You can't give a definative direction as such as the Earth spins on its axis and also orbits the Sun, as does Mars, so their relative positions to each other alter. Mars is further away from the Sun than Earth.

Does mars rotate the same way as earth?

The rotation of Mars is very similar to the rotation of earth. Its axial tilt, the length of its day, and the direction of its rotation are all very similar to those of earth.

Why is mars a solid planet?

because mars is a lot smaller than the earth (mars is about the same size as the earth) it is said that the interior of mars has cooled. Therefore convection of the asthenosphere is not possible and continental drift does not occur. We think the earth is headed in the same direction as mars and the earths interior will eventually cool to a solid.

What produces the retrograde motion of Mars?

From the Earth, the planet Mars appears to backtrack across the sky, against the background stars, over several nights (10 weeks or so) before resuming its normal direction. This apparent retrograde motion is caused by the positioning of the planets Mars and Earth, as Earth passes by Mars (travelling more quickly than Mars due to its closer proximity to the sun). Mars does not actually back track, its orbit remains constant and in the same direction, as with the earth. It only appears to backtrack from observations on Earth as the point of view changes.

Is Mars on the left side or right side of Earth?

There is no absolute direction in space, so it is impossible to answer.
