Thea, another "Mars-like" planet, crashed into the toxic wasteland of the then Earth, creating the supercontinent Pangaea and Earth's moon, Luna. The rest of Thea is believed to be in the Asteroid Belt, which orbits between Mars and Jupiter. (where Thea may have once resided, I say "may" because there is evidence that Thea may have had an elliptical orbit that brought it as close as Earth and as far out past Pluto towards the Oort Cloud every 3650 years, one Thean year is 3650 earth years [365 days]).

In one theory, it is believed that 4.5b years ago, something hit Thea causing an extinction event, creating the asteroid belt, and hurtling the rest of Thea into Precambrian Earth, creating the moon, the other says that as Thea was at its closest point in coincided with Earth's orbit and the gravitational forces pulled them together creating modern Earth and Luna, but this theory does not speculate on the asteroid belt. Either way, we know this event happened about 4.5 billion years ago. We know this not from Earth, which surface shifts everyday covering the planet and removing traces of history, but from the moon itself which has very little wind and seismic activity, and so all the rocks we collected are dated to 4.5 billion years old. (when the moon cooled and rounded by its own gravity), though there are traces of younger areas in impact craters that have crashed into the moon over the millenniums.

A planet - a fairly BIG planet already DID crash into the Earth, when the solar system was very young. Many scientists believe that about 100 million years after the Sun and the solar system formed, a planet perhaps as large as Mars collided with the Earth. The collision would have re-made the planet, as the cores of the two planets probably would have merged. Which may explain why Earth's molten iron core is larger than the other planets.... Anyway, the theory is that the crust material of both worlds would have been shattered and blasted into space. Much of that became the crust of the reformed Earth, but the rest of it coalesced in orbit to become the Moon. That was 4.3 billion years ago.

Yes i agree with you. A man called Tony Robinson did a documentary ages ago using a 24 hour clock,because each minute represented a million years. He said we wouldn`t exist if it wasn`t for that. I am trying to find the documentary on Channel 4. They have just emailed me,and will get back in touch with me with the information.

It will be venus but this will occur in over 7 billion years when whoever reads this and every one else on earth now will be dead

As we all know, Venus has NOT crashed into the Earth. Yet. There are a couple of whacky theories about what will happen in about a billion years when the orbit of Mercury may become unstable and expand to cross the orbit of Venus, which might then destabilize the orbit of Venus, which may cause Venus to crash into Mars. Or Earth, they aren't sure which. Nor none of these; out of 2500 simulations, only 40 had Mercury popping out of its orbit. That's pretty low-probability stuff!
