The first true projector, known as the magic lantern, was invented in the 17th century by Dutch scientist Christiaan Huygens. He developed it around 1659 in the Netherlands. The magic lantern used a light source to project images from glass slides onto a surface, laying the groundwork for future developments in projection technology.
Improved projection techniques, particularly in the context of film and photography, began to emerge in the late 19th century with advancements in technology. The invention of the motion picture projector in the 1890s, notably with devices like the Lumière brothers' Cinématographe, marked a significant leap in projection quality. Over the years, various improvements, including the development of better lenses and film formats, continued to enhance projection methods throughout the 20th century.
Although Athenasius Kircher is often credited with inventing the first projector, credit actually belongs to Christian Huygens, the 17th century Dutch physicist. He described the earliest known projector in a letter to his brother in 1656.William Lincoln invented a projector called the "wheel of life" or "zoopraxiscope." It was patented in 1867.Eadweard Muybridge visited Thomas Edison's lab. Muybridge had been working on stop motion photography. Edison invented 35 mm film to work with a movie camera.
d'Aiguillon is given credit for naming the Azimuthal map in 1613. However, its origin can be traced back to Greek Hipparchus in the 2nd century BC.
The projector was invented to display images or videos on a larger screen for a group of people to see simultaneously. It allowed for presentations, movies, and other visual content to be shared in an easily viewable format, making it a useful tool for education, entertainment, and business purposes.
I guess the mid-late 70s and the TVs would have been way to expensive for the average person to own. What they would have considered "big screen" in those days though are like 32" I believe. The first "big screen" TVs as we know them today were those big terrible projection TVs in the 80s.
This questions is not really clear to me.Do you want to correct a dark projection screen in a rear projection TV or are you talking about a real projection screen? Thanks for clarifying.Otto TrommBeamax
