Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin
Apollo 11 made its first lunar landing on 20 July 1969 at the Sea of Tranquility. The first human step on the moon off the craft occurred on 21 July 1969.
The first spacecraft to make a soft landing on the moon was the surveyor 1 spacecraft in 1966.
Neil Armstrong was the commander of Apollo 11, and Buzz Aldrin was the Lunar Module pilot. Armstrong guided the Lunar Module, Eagle, to the actual lunar landing, while the LMP fed the commander information such as altitude and speed. This was necessary because the commander had to keep his eyes on the landing site to make sure they landed in a safe place and not in a crater or on a boulder. The 3rd crewmember, Michael Collins, orbited 60 miles overhead in Colombia while his crewmates landed.
The landing took place on July 20, 1969. Nobody actually walked on the moon during the landing, as they were busy navigating their way down. Several hours later, however, the two occupants of the Lunar Module ... Neil A. Armstrong and Edwin E. Aldrin ... did put on space suits, get out of the LM, put up a flag, make some speeches, walk around for a while, collect some rocks, and then get back into the LM and go back home.
I believe he was the Lunar Lander pilot and his words were "10 feet...CONTACT!" It was a rather dramatic landing for them and they almost didn't make it. Their fuel reserves were down to fumes! He said "beautiful view .......magnificent desolation "when he first stepped on the moon

Yes, there are many conspiracy theorists out there claiming the first lunar landing was a hoax. All they need to do is look at the build up to the lunar landing. There are countless logical, precursory stages that preceded Apollo 11. The development of the space craft, the trial stages of the various launches & progressive steps by each astronaut prior to 11. There is boundless, unquestionable evidence as to the authenticity of the lunar landing. This is not to mention the astronaut they choose to make the first step. If an "actor" was what they were looking for then certainly Neil Armstrong (thee most low profiled, reserved, unassuming of all the astronauts every to walk the corridors of NASA) was the wrong choice. What would his motive have been? To make money? To bask in the fame & glory? Did he do either?
The first soft landing on the moon was Surveyor 1, which landed on June 2, 1966 at 2:17 PM ET. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surveyor_1. They turned off the engines when the lunar lander when it was 3.4 meters above the lunar surface, and it free fell from there. This beat out the Soviet Luna 9 mission by 4 months. The first soft landing manned mission was Apollo 11 which landed on July 20, 1969 at 4:17 PM ET
he was the first person to set foot on the moon. He was also the first person to land a spacecraft on the moon. When returning to earth, he had to make a crash landing in the pacific ocean.

They took their time to make sure the LM was properly configured and aligned so that there would be no problems once powered descent began. If they had to abort during PDI there would have been no second chance, the mission would have been over.
they just make up a name
