mars (like other planets) are named for a reason. mars was named mars because it was named after a roman God of War, mars. mars was the son of juno and jupiter. he was the husband of bellona ( an ancient war god) and lover of venus.

Yeah,and i think its got its name from the god of war of ancient Rome because mars`s colour is red wich indicated the colour of blood,thats why its named after the god of war :),Also strangely no planet is named after greek gods...only roman
