This is purely an educated guess! The outer planets are a lot bigger than the ones closer to the sun in orbit. This means that the gravitational pull of these planets is a lot greater also. This much I know for sure. I would think that since they have more gravitational pull, they probably attract more asteroids and other space debris to themselves that end up in orbit around those planets. because they have lot of gravity and other physical makeup such as ice,gas and so furth, that will eventual result when gravity pull and interract with those properities it form craters moons. pure education guess. it is the collision of hydrogen and helium added with gravity it causes them to have more moons

What dowe call the four large outer planets?

The 4 outer planets are Jupiter , Saturn , Uranus and Neptune

Are the inner planets large planets made up of mostly gas?

No, those are the outer planets.

What do the the outer planets have in common?

They are all gas planets. They are all quite large and made from gas, so there is no real surface like that of earths.

Why would the average densities of the four large outer planets be so low when compared with the average densities of the inner planets?

Because the outer planets are composed of mainly gas or ice, whereas the inner planets are composed of rock which has a higher density.

What describe the outer planets?

Large, gaseous and cold

What are large planets called gas or terrestrial?

large planets are called the outer planets or the JOVIAN PLANETS which are made up of gases and viscous liquids... terrestrial planets are the inner planets! inner planets- MERCURY VENUS EARTH MARS outer planets- JUPITER SATURN URANUS NEPTUNE

Why are the inner planets so much smaller then the gass giant outer planets?

The inner planets are smaller than the gas giant outer planets because they formed closer to the Sun where higher temperatures prevented gases from accumulating to form large planets. The outer planets had cooler temperatures, allowing them to accumulate large amounts of gas and become much larger in size.

What are 3 differences between the outer and inner planets?

The inner planets are small, the outer planets are huge in comparison. The inner planets have rocky surfaces, the outer planets are gas giants. All of the outer planets have rings. None of the inner planets does. All of the outer planets have several moons, some of them quite large.

Are the Jovian planets outer planets or inner?

There are four inner planets (Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars) and four outer planets (Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune). So there are an equal number of inner and outer planets.

Why are the inner planets smaller and made of rock while the outer planets are large and made of gas?

What is the size of the outer planets?

The average sizes of the outer planets are smallest than the average size of the Pluto so that they can called them the dwarf planets.

What distinguish the inner and outer planets?

This is a very basic answer, but maybe it's what you're looking for. The inner planets are rocky, have no rings, and are smaller. The outer planets are large, gaseous, and have rings.
