The first cathode ray tube scanning device was invented by the German scientist Karl Ferdinand Braun in 1897. In 1907, the Russian scientist Boris Rosing (who worked with Vladimir Zworykin) used a CRT in the receiver of a television system that at the camera end made use of mirror-drum scanning.

When will the space shuttle fly again?

I think it is unlikely it will ever fly again. But some people do want to revive it. For example, according to glactus in 'SPACE-TALK' thread 'United Space Alliance may keep Shuttle flying':-'United Space Alliance is pursuing NASA funding to assess the argument for flying the space shuttle for another 12 to 14 missions starting in 2013, after a restart of external fuel tank and solid rocket booster production. The company is NASA's prime contractor for space shuttle operations and at a forum this week, company officials proposed a commercial shuttle operations strategy. USA is seeking funds through NASA's Commercial Crew Development Round 2 competition to assess the proposal. This is good news as some space officials believe that tourists taken to Bigelow inflatable habitats attached to the ISS will be a viable commercial endeavor.'But NASA has said that they will not fly again, so there's no point 'continuing to bang the drum'. They have all been put to museums, parts of them have been removed, and their buildings have been demolished. In addition to this, after about 30 years, the likelyhood of accidents happening is probably increasing. Two disasters is enough, and there would be an awful lot of work involved in reviving them anyway.

What is drum boiler?

A drumless boiler is obviously a boiler without a drum. The steam is fed into a header, then into a turbine for making electricity. Quality control of the water used is of extreme importance. Since there is no water level in a drum to maintain, feedwater must be constant with no interruption of any kind. With a drum type, water feed can be interrupted for a very short time. Not so with a drumless type.
