Who invented the corner tube boiler?

November 12, 1944, the first basic patent for Corner Tube Boilers (= Eckrohrkessel, Berlin, Germany) was applied for. During this time oil as fuel ran short. All efforts, to save energy and use domestic and alternate resources, were to be made. One came up with an idea, to operate cars and trucks, not on gasoline or diesel fuel, but with steam.Dr. Vorkauf, a specialist for water circulation in boilers, especially in La Mont boilers (forced circulation boilers), got the order to design a small boiler for a steam engine fired with coal or wood. The result was not as expected a forced circulation boiler, but a natural circulation boiler. A forced circulation boiler of this size would have been too costly.Due to his experience with the La Mont boiler Dr. Vorkauf had the idea to obtain a pre-separation of the steam - water mixture in front of the drum. An extremely lively water circulation resulted from unheated downcomers and a suitable arrangement of the mixture tubes. The unheated downcomers were installed in the 4 corners of the boiler, where they not only served the purpose of water circulation, but also as a support frame for the boiler. The boiler with such an arrangement of the downcomers in the corners was called Corner Tube Boiler (Eckrohrkessel, Eckrohr-Boiler).

Why you use minus to zero range in drum level transmitter?

I refer to Steam Boiler drum level. It is actually - to some positive figure is the range. Generally the boiler level is maintained at mid point that is zero. The transmistter is differential type. (DP type) If the transmitter is with a specified signal out put of 4-20 mA, it sends out 4 mA at lowest level and 20 mA at highest level. At mid level zero it sends out 12 mA. Differential pressure is highest at actual lowest level and lowest at actual highest level of the drum. By keeping negative to positive range there is fair amount of analog signal on lower and higher side of the drum.

Why boiler drum manhole in elliptical in shape?

as the boiler drum is cylindrical in shape due to low stress concentration and in both end the diameter will be less.so for easy entry into the drum for a man the drum man hole is elliptical in shape.

What is Swelling and shrinking effect in boiler drum?

The swelling and shrinking effect in a boiler drum refers to the physical changes in the drum's volume due to temperature variations and pressure changes during operation. When the boiler is heated, the water inside converts to steam, causing the drum to swell as the pressure increases and the water expands. Conversely, when the boiler cools down or experiences a drop in pressure, the drum may shrink as the steam condenses back into water. This phenomenon is important to consider for the structural integrity and safety of the boiler system.

What is drum boiler?

A drumless boiler is obviously a boiler without a drum. The steam is fed into a header, then into a turbine for making electricity. Quality control of the water used is of extreme importance. Since there is no water level in a drum to maintain, feedwater must be constant with no interruption of any kind. With a drum type, water feed can be interrupted for a very short time. Not so with a drumless type.
