American astronaut Neil Armstrong became the first man to walk on the Moon on 21 July 1969, uttering the immortal words, "That's one small step for man but one giant leap for mankind." Fellow astronaut Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin joined Armstrong on the surface twenty minutes later whilst Michael Collins remained in orbit above.
