The Space race is as a consequence of the Cold War.
The Cold war is a consequence of Josef Stalin
His success was based on a Hard Line Approach-mostly Hard Line within the Soviet Union
He continued this Hard Line policy with the West after WW2
(That was what he was good at -why change? He understood power based on raw fear)
The Cold War continued after the death of Stalin
The Space race was only possible because of access to Rocket technology -originally developed by the Nazis during WW2.
USSR and USA both had access this.
USA was caught with its 'pants down ' when on 4 October 1957
a artificial satellite named Sputnik was successfully launched by USSR
The Space race was now a reality
First points to USSR
The accomplishments of the Untied States in the space race was; the US. won against the Russians and was ahead of the game (Russia was no longer the upper spot in the world. Sadly Kennedy could not see his dream come to life he died a few years before it had happened.
The space race had significant impacts on the US, including fueling advancements in technology, inspiring a generation of scientists and engineers, boosting national pride, and leading to the development of NASA, which has continued to push the boundaries of space exploration.
President Kennedy entered the US into the space race in 1961.
the space race
Because it was a "race" between the USSR and the US to reach space milestones first.
That would be the Russians
Many people believe that the americans won it but that is not true. The US. was first to land on the moon but the russians were the first in space.
The USSR was seemingly more advanced than the Unites States and it stimulated, or made the US want to beat the Russians. ----
Sputnik was the first spacecraft put into orbit, and was done by the Russians during the "space race".It was important to America because we were in competition with the Russians and wanted to get there first.

Before Sputnik, America was in a "battle" with Russia on space flight. America wanted to be the first in space, on the moon, and have the first satellite orbit the Earth. - When Sputnik (Russian Satellite) went into space, tension was created by which we had lost part of the Space Race. It put Russia ahead of America in the Space Race.
