A DEN LEADER who runs each den (den is smaller group of boys based on age/grade). The Cubmaster is the main "face" of the pack (the pack is ALL the boys) who runs the Pack meetings, which are held 1 per month. The Cubmaster works with a Committee Chair to run the entire pack. The pack also has Committee Members who assist the Committee Chair with planning.
The adult leader of a Cub Scout pack would be a Cub Master, who would be assisted by Assistant Cub Masters.

The Scoutmaster is in charge of the troop program and will have assistant Scoutmasters. The troop committee chairman leads the troop committee which deals with administrative duties. The main youth leadership positions within a scout troop are: Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader.
A group of boys in the same grade is called a Den. The leader of the division is called a Den Leader. When the boys are in the fourth and fifth grades, they are called Webelos. Then the division leader is called a Webelos Leader. The person in charge of all of the dens (including Webelos dens) is called the Cub Master or Assistant Cub Master. Akela. In a cub scout pack, an akela is a symbol of wisdom, authority, and leadership. It can be anyone from a den leader to a Cubmaster who acts as leader to the scouts. This name is taken from Rudyard Kipling's "The Jungle Book" as Akela was the lone grey wolf who led the pack. The scouting program is known for using themes from these popular children's stories since the early 1900's.
You do have to be registered with the BSA to be a Scout leader, but you do not need to have been a Scout as a youth.
