Seiki TV's are made by the company Seiki Digital. The company is owned by Tsinghua Tongfang Company, a Chinese company.
Avoid Magnavox.
I just called Seiki about the same issue (I have a 32" LCD). They indicated that the TV was "designed" to default to the 4:3 aspect ratio if you're getting the signal via an indoor antenna or a coax cable plugged into the wall. Very dumb, IMHO!

I heard from a saleman at HHGregg that Seiki uses Samsung parts. And for anyone who can't get their Comcast or Direct TV remote to learn the Seiki code... try using a Samsung code. It worked for me, I used code 10178!

Sony makes Plasma TVs and LCD TVs. Plasma LCD TVs don't exist. But Sony makes both types in sizes ranging from 22 inches to 60 inches. There are pros and cons to both types of TVs, so you have to decide which is best for you.
I don't know but I do know that the program codes for a lg works to program a dish remote to control a seiki tv.

There is no single company that makes such a product. Many companies make LCD monitors with TV tuners. Such companies include Samsung, Acer, Philips, and Asus.
