Early in 1945 a typhus epidemic broke out in Bergen-Belsen Concentration Camp which killed around 35,000 prisoners. Anne Frank (and her sister, Margot) succumbed to the disease and died in March 1945 (exact dates not known). The camp was liberated on 15 April 1945.
