Nobody has ever reported seeing the ghost of Laura Ingalls Wilder. Since lots of people visit her house, and people work there too, if she was a ghost, you would think somebody would have seen her by now.
Its depends on how far is the school
Few people walk to school because there school is too far or its cold or hot outside it all depends on the person
As far as "making a living" (supporting oneself) teaching was about all there was for young women back then, but in Laura's case, it was a matter of the family needing the extra income. Teaching was the only way for Laura to earn any more than piecework money (sewing). Laura did not want to teach, but she did it dutifully, and actually came to enjoy it by her last term of teaching.
In the 1800s, children walk to school when they want to. If it rains or snows, they would have to go in a carriage if they have one, or they still have to walk on their feet. Those days were really harsh.
Yes, the movie can be purchased online as well as in stores. The movie is enjoyable as far as it goes, but it is a long way from being historically accurate, just so you know. I concur with this edit. There were many historical inaccuracies as well as inaccuracies about Laura's life. It was pleasant to watch, but "Hollywood" crept in far too many times.
As far as her novels, she was initially inspired by the stories her Pa told her as a girl. Wanting to preserve those stories eventually led to "Little House in the Big Woods". Laura was astonished at the amount of fan mail that book generated, begging for more stories, and the rest of the books eventually followed.

If you live close to school, you walk. If you live far away from school, you travel by public transport, otherwise, you get chauffered to school by mum, dad or one of the family.
One or two blocks. Schools were local by the 1950's.
