The Franks family lived in the secret annex for 2 years and 29 days before they were captured by the Germans Police.
The set up was important because it helped Anne Frank and her family escape the Nazi's for a very long time. Sadly though they were eventually found. But it was crucial to their survival and escape
The Frank family, along with four others, stayed hidden in the attic of the Secret Annex in Amsterdam for about two years, from July 1942 to August 1944, before they were discovered and arrested by the Nazis.
The franks stayed in that room for two years and was then sent to concentration camp.
There was an illegal entry in early 1943 (nothing taken), then a burglary on July 15th, 1943, and another on February 29, 1944 . Both of these were quite professional - those in the annex did not know it until after the fact. Lastly, there was a break in on April 9, 1944 by a ten-year-old boy from the neighborhood named Hans Wijnberg. He also took nothing, but the commotion he created scared the people in the annex badly, and they spent a long, terrifying night until help came the next morning.
