She originally wanted to testify about the recent and popular Oscar-winning film The Best Years of Our Lives but they wouldn't let her as they feared attacking a popular film. Joseph McCarthy had nothing to do with the House (as he was a Senator) and didn't start his anti-communist crusade in the Senate until 1950.
