The Christmas Carol was written by Charles Dickens.

It is the story of an elderly miser who has buried his human virtues in an unending search for wealth. An intervention is provided by his dead friend Jacob Marley to have 3 spirits show Scrooge he error of his ways. He reforms and is happier for rejoining the society of mankind. MORAL: Be kind and generous and everyone will love you and you will be happy.

Alternately the story is about a good capitalist who earns money by providing loans to the working class, saves, employs staff and supports the government and its welfare programs through his taxes. He is not impressed with Xmas do-gooders that come around looking to help the poor just at Yuletide. He is confronted by three spirits that traumatize him by dredging up memories of sad times in this life and with images of his dead loved ones, the depths of human misery among folks that don't work as hard as he does, and a shattering image of his own death which includes being stripped of his worldly goods by a rapacious cook, housekeeper and undertaker before they can be transferred to his nephew Fred. MORAL:Evil social forces are at work to destroy hardworking business men - Beware!

Answer:

Another important moral this story has is: Money can't buy happiness. And also: let go of the past! Scrooge is burdened with the weight of his sister's death and his rejection of his sweetheart. That is why he despises Christmas so much! BUT SERIOUSLY, LET GO OF THE PAST! Think of how many times you regretted doing something?

Each character was used to bring out the social issue of teh time and of course many of the moral issue which dickens saw around him. He used the Cratchits to represent the underpaid over worked poel of teh country who were unable to do anything about their working conditions imposed on them as they were fearful they would be out of work. Tiny Tim represented the children who were sick and could not receive medial treatment much of which would have saved live as their parents could barely afford food. The ghost were there to bring out the life of Scrooge to see his past present and what could be his future, Scrooge was the society who were oblivious to the level of need and want that surrounded them - The theme of Christmas was used to show that at this time people then as now become more charitable and supportive to those who have nothing. Dickens tries to show that the spirit of christmas (the attitude of giving even a little to help) should last not for 2 of three days across december 24 to 27th but for the whole year.
