Helen Keller was the first deaf and blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree, and became a well known author, political activist and lecturer. Due to her condition, she could neither see nor hear and therefore, although learning to speak through feeling her friend's facial movements, her speech was very impaired. Despite all of her problems, however, she still lived an inspirational and full life. It is for this reason that jokes about her are considered so distasteful, as the vast majority mock her disabilities despite her being such an inspiration to other disabled people.
