You're thinking of Dante : "Abandon hope all ye who enter here" .
Here is a short poem about Edgar Allan Poe: In shadows deep, his words do creep, A master of the macabre, With tales of woe and mystery, Poe's legacy will endure.
I know of the poem "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe. I did a little searching because I didn't recognize the quote "Don't quote 'The Raven.' " Although many people have used that phrase online, it appears that the phrase (possibly originally) comes from a poem that was posted in response to another question here on Answers.com. It was part of a poem written in answer to the question "Do we have any good poem, song, or story writers out there?"

1816 - Poe goes to the boarding school of the Misses Dubourg (146 Sloan Street, Chelsea, London, The Poe Log, p. 29). Here, Edgar is known as "Master Allan" (Quinn, p. 69). Among the subjects taught are geography, spelling and the Catechism of the Church of England.
Alliteration :)
"May all who are born here die here, and may all who come here never leave" Actually he may have only put it on Deer Park Tavern, originally St. Patrick's tavern, not on the whole state of Delaware itself.
