In 1918, Mao Zedong was a student at the University of Peking. He was still a student when he read in 1920-21 the Communist Manifesto. This work by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels was a source of inspiration for the young Zedong.
He never went to college but he did go to school, and became a teacher.
Marx's most famous writing was his economic treatise "Das Kapital", as he titled it in his native German, or "Capital" in English. In it he outlined his views on capitalism and communism. Also his "Communist Manifesto" (written with Fredrich Engels) is extremely important, as it outlines the entire theory of class struggle and the stages of history. Opinion Das Kapital had several versions. The last one was published after the death of Marx. By far The Communist Manifesto was his most famous book.
The Little Red Book was mass produced in China because Mao ZeDong wanted his sayings read by everyone. It was required reading in the schools of Communist China.
Students had to worship Mao and read Communist texts. They had to report on the bad things they have done during the day and even report on other students.

Communism in general is very revolutionary, but as to Lenin, he was revolutionary because he changed a capitalist society to a communist one and began the Soviet Union which would become a great success until Stalin.
