Edmund Morrison was born in Tacoma Wn. in 1904 and lived most of his life in Vancouver B.C. He obtained a BA from UBC and an MA either from UBC or University of California at Berkeley and a PhD at Universiity of California at Berkeley. He was a Professor of English Literature at UBC from 1939 to 1970, with stints as a visiting Professor at various Universities in Canada during that time. He was married and had two sons and two daughters. He retired to Pender Island B.C. in 1971 and enjoyed a peaceful and fulfilling retirement there until his death in 1999.
