Henry Barry Lowery was, by most accounts an outlaw and criminal. His race was and still is in question. Most " Indians" in Robeson County will tell you he is an Indian. He was known, through various stories of his life and deeds as the "Black Robin Hood", hence the reason some folks are confused about his race. He was a legend to some, and a criminal to others, but he is a mystery to all. He vanished some time around 1872, with some saying he was murdered and some saying that he accidentally shot himself while cleaning his gun. There are some folks who claim to have seen him long after he vanished, therefore shrouding in mystery the fate of Henry Barry Lowry.
