Kino reacted that way because he thought that the pearl waspart of his soul as it says in the book. So if the pearl left his soul would leave him too. Also he did not want to wealth to get away that easily and by that time Kino was a greedy guy. THis i because all he thinks about is the pearl and what he would get like a rifle. So he didn't want that to happen, so he acted fiercely just to get it back because he wanted his wealth and did not want the chance to pass by. I hope it helped.
