if you remove the bowl on the bottom of the carb you will see a float. it pushes up on a jet that allows gas to flow into the bowl and stops gas when the bowl is full i very small bend upward on the piece that pushes the jet up will stop gas from leaking out of the overflow. whatever you do don't go too far. if that doesnt fix it than the jet that lets gas come in will need replaced

I took the float & jet off
and found a piece of trash had gotten up in the hole where the jet goes. This was stopping it from closing off the fuel. Cleaned it , put it back together . Runs perfect now.
My advice would be to have the transmission fluid and filter changed. If that does not correct the problem you need to have the transmission rebuilt by a professional.

I am having the same problem with my 93 jeep cherokee. it can hardly get out of its own way! i just recently rebuilt my motor and transmission. i replaced the cps ( crankshaft position sensor) and it made a noticeable difference, but still hasn't fixed the problem completely! I need help!
If it is a transmission problem, the best thing you can do is have the transmission rebuilt. That will fix the problem and prevent any further damage to the transmission.
Have the transmission rebuilt. There have been alot of recalls on them.
I had mine rebuilt for around $1,700 using non OEM parts.
1998-2002 has some trans problems, do not get a used tranny. Must have tranny rebuilt. Replacing it will give you that same jerking problem later down the road. The tranny must be rebuilt.
Your transmission needs to be rebuilt ... although - once - I "fixed" that problem by draining & refilling my trany.
