Dodge doesn't have a 4.8 liter engine so I am not sure that there is an answer.
if check engine light is flashing engine is misfiring It could be only a little hole on the gasoline pipe. cause the system must be pressurise and if is not the "check engine" will flash. the light only stays on if there is a drivibility problem it will flash if there is a slight problem and the computer in the truck will fix itself or at least try to goto a place to get the OBD II test ran on it and it should tell you whats wrong

If you mean "Check Engine, SES" light, unplug the negative battery for about 1 minute. If if comes back on go to autozone, they'll plug in an OBD2 reader and tell you exactly whats causing it. Also if it stays on you wont pass emssions. (1996 & newer only.)
There is a problem with the emissions system. Need to have engine scaned with a engine scanner, and it will tell you were the problem is and whats going on.
