Many places do not want to put an OBD reader on if the check engine soon light is not on. However, the codes ARE stored in memory. Get yourself a Haynes Repair Manual for your vehicle (or check at your local library to see if there is one available), go to Chapter 6 and read how you can retrieve the codes yourself - also listed are all the codes and what each one means.
