Many places do not want to put an OBD reader on if the check engine soon light is not on. However, the codes ARE stored in memory. Get yourself a Haynes Repair Manual for your vehicle (or check at your local library to see if there is one available), go to Chapter 6 and read how you can retrieve the codes yourself - also listed are all the codes and what each one means. Good luck.
In 1996, computers changed to save codes. ( OBD II) .
Many parts houses can read the codes.
"What is the firing order on an 1994 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme 3.4L engine?"
Depends if it is the 3.1 or 3.4. I have a 3.4L and I let the dealer do it. The car had to be raised and the engine lowered since the alternator is located on the rear of the engine towards the bottom. See question regarding the 1995 Cutlass Supreme . Same applies unless you have the 3.4 version of engine.
