Used motor oil can and should be recycled. Call your local waste management office or a garage, they will be able to tell you where to take it.
There are other uses for small quantities, such as using it for chain saw bar oil and lubricating bicycle chains.
Many shops and junk yards use old oil in an oil fired furnace. The way it is designed the oil burns hot enough that you don't get very much smoke from it.

Yes, if baking flour is too old or has been contaminated, it can develop a rancid smell. The smell might also occur if the flour is stored in an old oil container. It could absorb the odor of rancid oil if kept in an open container near old oil. In any of these cases, the rancid-smelling flour should be discarded, as the smell would spoil any product made with it.
My favorite VW oil is 30-weight Shell Rotella T, which is made for old-fashioned hot-running diesels. Our cars are also old-fashioned and hot-running, so it works well. If you can't get that, just about any quality 10W30 works great.
Mixing two kinds of oil will in most cases not cause any problems, but if i where you, id take out the old oil and put in the new.
