you most likely have worn tie rod ends or inner tie rod bushings that need replacing.
If the steering wheel is loose while driving the steering rack may be going bad. A bad steering rack leads to a lot of play on the actual wheel.
To repair:Determine if the play in in the rack and pinion box (very Rare) or in another steering component. The faulty rack or the other faulty part will need to be replaced. There are no possible adjustments for steering play!
You can tell that the rack in opinion steering is bad when there is excessive play in the steering will. You might also feel a shimmy in the steering wheel.
Where do you think the play is,it could be anywhere along the steering system. But try the ball joints on the steering rack, the u/v joint on the steering rack to steering column. And also watch for u/v joint on the inside of the bulk head on the steering column.and bearings on the steering column behind the steering wheel all points of wear.
A rack end is the part of a steering system (rack-and-pinion-steering) that connects a steering rack to the tie rod (track rod/connecting rod) which connects to the wheel. In a simple steering system, there are four parts: steering rod - rack (this is the one that works with the pinion gear) - rack end - tie rod
To replace the power steering rack on a Saturn Ion, You must first dissmantle the current steering rack by accessing the main hood, and from there you can screw the new steering rack into place
Rack and pinion, power box, and power rack steering.
In an older vehicle with Pittman steering, a certain amount of steering wheel play is normal. In a newer vehicle with rack and pinion steering (and almost all cars now have it) only a tiny bit of play is normal. More than that should be checked - it's possible part of the steering column is damaged, and the car may be unsafe to drive. If your car is a later model with rack and pinion, and there is enough steering wheel play to notice, get it checked out, pronto.
Loose or worn steering rack? Worn steering components: tie rod ends etc.
Usually the Rack and Pinion are not disturbed directly but the Tie Rod usually is. If this is not reassembled correctly you get an off centre steering wheel and bad tire wear. Bad signs, have the car checked, and adjusted correctly.
There are a lot of places in order for one to purchase a steering rack. However, it is suggested that one should buy a steering rack from the website Amazon.
No!, I suspect your steering box might be at fault-I believe it can be adjusted.
