The timing plate cover on a 1983 Honda VT750 is located on the left side of the engine, near the front. It is a circular or oval-shaped cover secured by bolts, typically found above the crankcase. To access the timing plate, you may need to remove other components, such as the side cover or exhaust, depending on the maintenance or adjustment you are performing. Always refer to the service manual for specific instructions and precautions.

On a 1983 Yamaha Maxim 750, the wires on the clutch handle are typically for the clutch switch, which is part of the safety system. This switch ensures that the engine can only start when the clutch is pulled in, preventing accidental startups. Additionally, these wires may also connect to the neutral indicator light, signaling when the bike is in neutral. Properly functioning wires and connections are crucial for safe operation.
first crank the bike. (with battery charger if need be) then disconect the battery while its running. if the bike goes dead this means that the only thing feeding your spark plugs and coil is the juice from the battery and you have problem with the magneto most likely. if the bike remains running after you disconect the battery you should still check the voltage in the battery leads (the wires you disconected, not the battery) with a volt meter. if the system is "charging" it should give you better than 12 volts. these two things should tell you if you have to look further.
